Inglorious Dominates In Ontario Lassie

Donver Stables' two-year-old filly, Inglorious, notched her second stakes win in as many starts in Saturday's $150,000 Ontario Lassie Stakes, the on-track feature at Woodbine. Inglorious took control of the race in the final eighth of a mile, while avoiding Molinaro Social, who lost her rider exiting the first turn. Inglorious added $90,000 to her earnings, making it $180,000 in two starts for trainer Josie Carroll and jockey Chantal Sutherland. She broke her maiden on October 24th when she captured the $150,000 Fanfrelche Stakes.

Inglorious sat off the pace and along the rail in the early going of the one mile and one sixteenth race and eventually moved into third position, just behind in the leaders, going into the backstretch. Along the backstretch, most of the field had to deal with Molinaro Social, who lost her rider in the first turn. With the added weight of a jockey off of her back, Molinaro Social ran to the front, ahead of the pack but began to tire in the stretch. Luckily, Molinaro Social veered off to the grandstand side, avoiding any interference in the stretch. As Jayceetee began to make her moved into the turn, Sutherland angled Inglorious off the rail and came three wide into the stretch. After a slight bump with Jayceetee, Inglorious began her dominating run in the stretch and quickly took control of the race. She would go on to win by five and three quarter lengths. Check out the replay below:

Although Carroll didn't reveal anything to Renee Kierans in the post-race interview, you would think that this filly will be prepping for the Woodbine Oaks for 2011. Inglorious has made an impression in both of her stakes races and has now proved that she can win going two turns and that she may be strongest going two turns. Inglorious may also be in serious consideration for champion two-year-old female and has given Sovereign Award voters something to think about when they cast their ballots once the season is over.
