Da Silva Closes His Woodbine Meet With Win

Woodbine's leading rider, Eurico Rosa Da Silva, closed off his 2010 Woodbine meeting with a win in Saturday's eleventh race on Zinn House Doll. It was Da Silva's only win on Saturday's program, increasing his meet leading win total to 187, 20 more wins than Patrick Husbands, who sits in second at 167. Da Silva has been suspended for the final day of the Woodbine meet for a whipping infraction.

Da Silva's 2010 meet was highlighted by his second straight Queen's Plate victory on Big Red Mike. Da Silva took the lead out of the gate and guided Big Red Mike to the victory on the front end over a speed favouring race track. He also was at the centre of a major human interest piece that broke at Woodbine over this summer. Overall, it was a breakthrough year for Da Silva and his performance with major stables this season will no doubt help him remain at the top of the standings in 2011.

With the Woodbine meet now over for the 2010 season, Da Silva will head to Aqueduct in New York for the winter. His first mount at the "Big A" will be on a horse named Reading Group in Wednesday's eighth race. Hopefully, Da Silva can do well at Aqueduct over the winter and he will most likely return to Woodbine in 2011 to defend his leading rider crown and look for his third straight Queen's Plate Victory.
