A Bold Executive colt, out of the stakes-winning mare Honolulu Gold by Alwuhush, was the only horse to bring six figures, selling for $100,000 on the first day of the 2011 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale at Woodbine on Monday night.
70 horses went through the sales ring on day one of the selected session, as part of the new three-day format of the sale this year. Day one and day two of the sale are both selected sessions, with day three scheduled as the open session on Saturday.
48 horses sold on Monday for a gross of $1,322,000. The median was $23,000 and the average was $27,542. The median was higher than the sale median of $20,000 in 2010, but the average was slightly lower than the $28,000 average price in last year's sale.
Bear Stables Ltd. was the top buyer of the night, purchasing four horses for $302,000, including the two top horses in the sale. They paid $100,000 for the Bold Executive colt out of Honolulu Gold and also purchased a colt by Where's The Ring out of Gypsy Genna for $95,000. The colt is the full brother to Gypsy Ring, who is stakes-placed and most recently finished fourth in the gr. II Play The King Stakes at Woodbine on August 28. They also purchased a colt by Trajectory out of Juicey for $57,000 and Marcus Mucci, a colt by Marcavelly out of Mama Mucci, for $50,000.
Day two of the selected session will begin on Tuesday, September 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion, where hips 71 through 227 will go through the sales ring. You can watch the sale live on the CTHS website at www.cthsont.com.
