Casse Scores Six On Second Day Of OBS Sale

Woodbine's leading trainer Mark Casse was very busy on the second day of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's March Sale of Two-Year-Olds In Training, purchasing six juveniles for a total of $1,755,000. The leading purchase for Casse was a filly by Medaglia d'Oro out of User History, for which he paid $450,000. Casse served as the purchasing agent for undisclosed buyers in each transaction.

Without purchasing a horse on day one of the OBS sale, Casse began his busy day by purchasing hip number 271, a Congrats filly out of Silver Spook for $260,000. He followed that up shortly thereafter by bidding for hip 294, a Lawyer Ron colt out of Steal the Show. Casse was able to purchase that horse for $320,000. After purchasing the Medaglia d'Oro filly for $450,000, Casse then went on to purchase hip 373, an Ontario-bred filly by First Samurai out of A Touch of Glory for $220,000. Casse's final two purchases included hip 435, an Any Given Saturday colt out of Classic Approval, for $180,000 and hip 463, a Mailbu Moon colt out of Deputy Cures Blues, for $325,000.

Casse was the leading buyer of the sale in both the horses purchased (6) and amount paid ($1,755,000). He beat out prominent American trainer Bob Baffert, Lane's End Farm, Repole Stables and even West Point Thoroughbreds, the popular American horse racing partnership company who Casse trains a pair of horses for at Woodbine, in these categories.

Casse was also busy last year at the OBS two-year-old sales, purchasing four horses. One of those horses was Delightful Mary, who finished third in the Grade I Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies and is currently among the leading contenders for the Kentucky Oaks, which will be run at Churchill Downs in May. With any luck, Casse will bring the horses he purchased back north with him to Woodbine. Although it is possible we may not see any of them run this season, the prospect of seeing one of these major purchases in action on the track this summer is making this blogger very excited.
