The 2010 CTHS Winter Mixed Sale saw increases in the number of horses sold from 2009, but those horses appeared to cost less than they did last year. The 2010 sale saw 124 horses sold, up from 110 in 2009, but the gross total was $506,700, down from the gross total of $590,210 in 2009. Here's the totals, along with average prices and medians from the various sessions of the 2010 CTHS Winter Mixed Sale:
Broodmares - 57 sold for $246,300; average price - $4,321; median price - $1,300
Stallions - 2 sold for $5,000; average price - $2,500; median price - $2,500

The top horse sold at the sale this year was hip 92, The Queen's Stamp, a dark bay mare who sold for $63,000 to Cantium Bloodstock. The Queen's Stamp is an eight-year-old mare by Prized, out of Native Rights. She had a great racing career, racing until last year as a seven-year-old and earned $297,733 racing between Canada and the United States. She's currently pregnant with her first mare to Sky Conqueror, a horse in the Ontario Sire Series. Other top prices included $39,000 for a Successful Appeal colt out of Paper Angel, $29,000 for a Bold Executive weanling out of Mycupoftea, $26,000 for the weanling Bold Cry and $20,000 for the mare Anna's Ballerina.
If you read my preview, there were a few horses I picked out of the catalogue that I would be watching for in yesterday's sale. Let's see how they did:

Turns out I have expensive taste in horses! With the 2010 CTHS Winter Mixed Sale in the books, that ends the sales season for the CTHS Ontario Division in 2010. The next CTHS Ontario Division sale will be the yearling sale in September 2011. For Canadian buyers, attention will turn to Keeneland and the Ocala Mixed Sale in January and the Two Year Olds In Training Sales at the same venues in March and April. You can catch previews of those sales right here at At The Post.
