West Point Thoroughbreds Make Canadian Debut

As someone who potentially wants to own racehorses one day, I explored an opportunity in July with West Point Thoroughbreds, a partnership company well known in the United States but had never run in Canada before. While at the Queen's Plate on July 4th at Woodbine, I noticed an ad in the Daily Racing Form about a new owner seminar later that week. Unfortunately, I could not make the seminar, but West Point Thoroughbreds did send me an information booklet that had information about their two horses they are now running at Woodbine.

One of their two horses, Enduring Star, made his debut in a 6 and 1/2 furlong Maiden Special Weight race on turf for two year olds, with a purse of $68,400 on Saturday. Enduring Star is a two-year old colt out of Sir Shackleton, who won four graded stakes races in his career. Despite the 6th place finish, Enduring Star was able to beat out several horses who had started races before. Check out the race below here:

Enduring Star is trained by Woodbine's top trainer, Mark Casse, and was ridden on Saturday by one of Woodbine's top riders, Patrick Husbands. They already have big plans for this horse, including a potential birth in the Queen's Plate next season. It will be interesting to follow this horse over the fall at Woodbine and potentially in the winter if West Point Thoroughbreds decide to race this horse in Florida or another destination in the United States.

The other West Point horse at Woodbine is Bold Henry, a two-year old colt out of Bold Executive, a popular sire in Ontario. There is no word yet on when Bold Henry will make his debut from West Point Thoroughbreds, but it should be very, very soon.

I will be keeping my eye on how West Point Thoroughbreds do up here at the racetrack and in the sales ring over the next couple of seasons. There's the potential for more horses to come up here and I think that West Point Thoroughbreds is a great company to get involved with for potential new owners. They attract the best of the best in trainers and riders wherever they go and have the opportunity through their business model to purchase top horses who can win large purses in stakes races.
