Queen Street Beach improved his career record to three wins in three starts last Wednesday night as he captured the $125,000 Deputy Minister Stakes by a half-length at Woodbine.

Going off as the 3-5 favourite in the seven furlong polytrack sprint, Queen Street Beach stalked the leaders, Altius and Old Blue Eyes, in the opening quarter, run in 23.48. Along the backstretch, Altius began to open up on the rest of the field, and Queen Street Beach gained ground while looking to take over second position. The opening half mile was clocked in 46.00.

In the turn, Queen Street Beach and Old Blue Eyes began to make up ground on Altius along the outside. As the field turned for home, Altius still held the lead but Queen Street Beach continued to gain ground. The two three-year-olds would fight neck in neck down the stretch, but in the final sixteenth of a mile, Queen Street Beach pulled away to win in a final time of 1:22.88. Altius finished second, while Old Blue Eyes held on for third.

Trained by Mark Casse and owned by Melnyk Racing Stables, Queen Street Beach paid $3.40, $2.60, $2.30, combining with Altius ($4.00, $2.60) for a $10 exactor. Old Blue Eyes ($4.00) completed a $71.10 triactor.
