Woodbine Giving Fans Opportunity To Meet Jockeys On Saturday

With the 2011 Canadian Thoroughbred season kicking off at Woodbine on Saturday, the track is giving fans the opportunity to meet several members of the jockey colony before racing kicks off.

Fans visiting the track on Opening Day will be greeted by several members of the country's finest jockey colony at approximately 11:45 a.m. at the north entrance. In addition to posing for pictures and signing autographs, the riders will be giving out vouchers for mystery cash cards which will carry a minimum of $2.

While high-profile jockeys like Eurico Rosa Da Silva, Patrick Husbands, Emma-Jayne Wilson and Jim McAleney are returning in 2011, one jockey will not be coming back to Woodbine in 2011. Chantal Sutherland, third in the jockey standings a season ago, has decided to remain in Southern California in 2011. Her 136 wins and colony-high 18 stakes victories in 2010 are now up for grabs.

"This is always one of the most exciting times of the racing year," said jockey Jim McAleney in a Woodbine Press Release. "Everyone has so much optimism and promise. It looks as though it's going to be another thrilling season."
