The Breeders' Cup and Churchill Downs unveiled the new championship logo for the 2011 Breeders' Cup World Championships, which will be held at Churchill Downs on November 4th and 5th, 2011. The 2011 Breeders' Cup features 14 races and $26 million in purses over the two days, and will be run in Louisville for a record eighth time.

Here's the description of the logo from the Breeders' Cup press release/website:

"The 2011 event logo incorporates the Breeders' Cup elegant purple with the Thoroughbred mark in the center of the design. The graphic is combined with the Twin Spires at Churchill Downs shaded in silver on opposite sides of the logo. The center circle is enveloped by a silver outer ring. The word 'World Championships' are placed in an arc over the top of the logo and 'Louisville, Kentucky' under the circle. The words 'November 4th and 5th' are inscribed on an alternate version."

Tickets for the 2011 Breeders' Cup are scheduled to go on sale to the general public in early June. If you want to register for tickets today, you can do so by clicking here. Fans who register early will have the opportunity to purchase tickets in a pre-sale opportunity in late May.

The unveiling of today's logo got me really excited again for the Breeders' Cup. The Breeders' Cup put together an amazing highlight video of last year's championships on their website that also got me excited for this year. I think Churchill Downs is the perfect venue for the event, especially with the introduction of racing under the lights last year. It is an iconic venue to Thoroughbred horse racing and a very fitting setting for the finale of the Thoroughbred season.
