The Queen's Plate Contenders: Tuesday Workout Report

Just one horse being considered for the 2011 Queen's Plate hit the track today for workouts. Pender Harbour, who will be ridden by former Woodbine rider Chantel Sutherland in the 152nd running of the Queen's Plate, breezed five furlongs earlier this morning.

Pender Harbour worked today for the first time since finishing a respectable fourth in the one mile and one eighth Victoria Park Stakes on June 12th. The three-year-old gelding worked five furlongs handily in 1:02.00 over Woodbine's main track. The workout ranked 10th out of 14 horses who worked that distance this morning.

Pender Harbour is an interesting story for the Queen's Plate. Originally nominated back in February, Pender Harbour's connections decided to not pay the second nomination fee. If he will makes it into the entry box for the race on Thursday, his connections will have to supplement him for $25,000. It could be a great gamble should Pender Harbour be able to make it into the money, but if he doesn't, his owners may regret not continuing with the second nomination and final entry fees for just $11,500.
